India vs Afghanistan: Rohit Sharma equals MS Dhoni's record in T20Is

Rohit Sharma's bat may not have produced any runs on Sunday, but India's six-wicket win over Afghanistan in the second T20I in Indore brought him level with MS Dhoni as India's most successful captain in the shortest format.

Until Sunday, Dhoni's 41 T20I wins in 72 matches as captain stood at the top of the list for India, until Rohit joined him there with his 41st win as skipper in 53 T20Is.

The series is also significant as Rohit made his return to the format after a gap of 14 months.

Chasing 173 to win, India cruised to victory, led by brisk half-centuries by opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (68 off 34 balls) and all-rounder Shivam Dube (63 not out off 32 balls).

Rohit was dismissed for a first-ball duck by Fazalhaq Farooqi, while Virat Kohli, who also made a return to the T20I format, scored 29 before being dismissed by Naveen-ul-Haq.

Batting first, Afghanistan rode on Gulbadin Naib's 57 off 35 balls and a late-order flourish to reach a competitive 172 all out at the Holkar Stadium. Arshdeep Singh led the bowling charts for India with his spell of 3 for 32.

Rohit's comeback to the format was marked by another record as he became the first men's cricketer to make 150 T20I appearances.

The win gave India an unassailbale 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
