India are reportedly set to be provided with 'enhanced' food after being offered 'cold sandwiches' following a training session ahead of their T20 World Cup win over the Netherlands.
India have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the tournament, recording a stunning win over rivals Pakistan and a comprehensive 56 run win over the Netherlands. However, there was some discontent off the field with India unhappy about the food on offer after training, having been offered 'cold sandwiches' after a practice session ahead of the Netherlands game.
"The team told the ground authorities about the meal we got," a source told the AFP. "Will you be happy if you are served a sandwich after three hours of workout?
"I know all the teams are getting the same thing but they are not speaking out because most of them are not in a position to raise a voice. We did not train today and hope we get something better in our next net session, and if not, then the players will order online like we did on Tuesday."
An unnamed Indian official, meanwhile, told the Press Trust of India: "The problem is that the ICC isn't providing any hot food after lunch. In a bilateral series, the host association is in charge of catering and they always provide hot Indian meals after a training session.
"But for ICC, the rule is the same for all countries. You can't just have a cold sandwich, not even grilled, with avocado, tomato and cucumber after two hours of training. That is plain and simple inadequate nourishment."
Now, according to a report from the i, India have made a formal request for their non-match-day meals to be 'enhanced', with hot food made available.
The report states that teams were able to make the request before the tournament began, but India did not. The ICC are said to have granted the request, but did not receive an official complaint from India about the issue.
India are currently top of Group 2 and look well-placed to qualify for the semi-finals. They will be back in action on Sunday when they face South Africa at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
