India's Ashmita Chaliha falters in Thailand Masters Super 300 semifinals

NEW DELHI: Talented Indian shuttler Ashmita Chaliha faced a setback in the Thailand Masters Super 300 tournament as she bowed out in the women's singles semifinals against local player Supanida Katethong.

The 24-year-old from Guwahati encountered a tough challenge from the world no. 17 Supanida, losing in straight games with a scoreline of 13-21, 12-21. The encounter lasted 35 minutes and saw Supanida's dominance throughout.

The match, featuring two left-handed shuttlers, saw Supanida taking control early with a comfortable 8-3 lead in the first game. Maintaining her momentum, Supanida secured the opening game, setting the tone for the match.

The second game followed a similar pattern, with Ashmita managing to stay close initially at 6-7. However, Supanida asserted her dominance, reeling off nine of the next 10 points, ultimately securing the victory and advancing to the final.

While Ashmita Chaliha's impressive run in the tournament came to an end in the semifinals, her performance showcased her talent on the badminton court.
