A relentless heatwave has swept across large parts of North India, with temperatures soaring to a blistering 50 degrees Celsius in Phalodi, Rajasthan, on Sunday (May 26). This is the highest temperature recorded in the country since June 2019, when Churu, also in Rajasthan, reached a scorching 50.8 degrees Celsius.
At present, the heatwave is not just limited to North India. Reports have also come from cooler states like Himachal Pradesh, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh where several locations have witnessed unprecedented temperatures. If reports are to go by, West Bengal’s Cooch Behar reached 40.5 degrees, Assam’s Silchar hit 40 degrees, Lumding recorded 43 degrees, and Arunachal Pradesh’s Itanagar and Pasighat registered 40.5 and 39.6 degrees, respectively.
