Gujarat: The Largest Mangrove Cover Outside the Sundarbans
Gujarat holds roughly 1,140 square kilometres of mangrove forests along its coastline, the second-largest mangrove cover in India after West Bengal. The Gulf of Kutch, in particular, carries stands of Avicennia marina so dense that the canopy closes overhead at mid-tide. The Marine National Park at Jamnagar is the entry point most visitors use, though the mangroves at Nal Sarovar and the Banni grassland fringe are worth the extra drive for anyone who wants to move between ecosystems in a single day.
