Residents have been speaking about what they'd like to see happen to a building up for sale in New Basford. Most people would like to see facilities open within the building that will benefit people in the area.
People in the area have spoken out about the potential for 588 Radford Road, located not to far from the local McDonald's. Retired Pat Larn, who is 64 and lives in Bulwell, visits a friend regularly in New Basford.
She said: “I’d like to see an independent shop. This area isn’t too bad for shops because you have Sainsbury's, Aldi and the small Tesco Express near the petrol station but it would be nice for there to be another corner shop maybe or a Nisa Local.

"People like to shop around, it's nice to have more rather than less. The only problem with more shops means more traffic and for the people that live around here and drive, I can imagine that would be quite irritating."
According to a Nottingham City Council report, the building was expected to become vacant by the end of February. It comes after the occupying tenant gave notice to leave. The council, in turn, has declared the building surplus to requirements and made the freehold available for sale.
Sharon Dale, 52, a full time mum who lives in New Basford, said: "At the church across the road from Sainsbury's they used to do Brownies and Guides. It'd be great if something else like that took place here. Something for kids like a youth group or somewhere people can go after school if they're struggling academically.
"I think this building is restricted because there's not a lot of space for much so I'm quite excited to see what it will turn into." The council has agreed to sell the property at auction. A city council reports states the property is in need of repair.
Dan Morris, 59, civil servant from Bestwood said he’d like to see something useful. He said: “Well the mess outside the place where people have dumped clothes when the building clearly isn't being used needs sorting for starters but I’d like to see something practical.
“I’ve got eight children and my daughters are always going on about having more school uniform shops so that could be an idea. I wouldn’t mind there being another shop but people living on the street behind may have a problem with that as it will get noisy.
"There's nowhere to park here so the place would have to become something where you can quickly go in and out." Retired Maurine Parker, who is 82 and lives in the area, added: “We could do with a post office, I have to go to Bulwell to go. Or another shop, sometimes even Sainsbury's can be too far to get to.”
