Pictures have shown the heavy localised flooding in Cardiff after the dry spell that saw drought declared for many parts of Wales gives way to heavy downpours and thunderstorms. Yellow weather warnings were issued for parts of Wales on Monday as thunderstorms and lightning struck.
After last night's heavy downpour and thunderstorms, photos have been shared on social media of flooding on two Cardiff Roads. Two photographs posted to a community group on Facebook showed the aftermath of the heavy rain, with water gathering under the bridge on Lowther Road in the Cathays area of the city. It came as loud thunder was heard across the city which you can watch here.
There was also flooding on the nearby Salisbury Road, with three people pictured up to their knees in water, trying to assist a driver who had started driving into the flooded area. However, by midnight, the flood appeared to have cleared.

This wasn't the only instance of localised flooding in the city - a restaurant had to be evacuated on Monday after water began leaking into the building. Diners at Pasture on High Street in Cardiff's city centre had to be evacuated immediately as video footage showed water streaming through the ceiling. Firefighters were called to the restaurant following the incident, the BBC reports.
A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms was issued by the Met Office yesterday, with the Cardiff area being among the affected places. According to BBC Weather, there were more than 30,000 lightning strikes across the UK on Monday as storms moved up from France.
And the dramatic weather is set to return on Tuesday afternoon, as the Met Office forecasts thundery downpours. For Cardiff, thunderstorms are most likely to hit between 12pm and 4pm. The forecasting agency says that an area of low pressure slowly moving across the UK this week, means the weather will remain unsettled.
Currently, there are no flood warnings for the Cardiff area, with Natural Resources Wales issuing a flood alert for the Rivers Loughor and Amman on Monday evening.
