Increased Latino Support For Trump Expected At Border

Donald Trump during speech.

National Border Patrol Council president Paul Perez recently discussed the anticipated changes at the border under the incoming administration and the growing support for the president-elect within the Latino community. Perez highlighted the likelihood of a surge in migrant activity at the border in the coming months but expressed confidence in the restoration of security measures akin to those seen during Trump's initial term after the inauguration on Jan. 20.

During the 2024 election, Trump managed to secure a notable increase in Latino backing, with a 7-point rise nationally compared to the 2020 election. This shift was exemplified by the flipping of Starr County, Texas, in favor of the GOP for the first time since 1898. Perez noted that the Latino community's support for Trump, particularly along the border, did not come as a surprise to him. Many residents in these areas felt neglected and overlooked by the Biden Administration.

In 2024, Trump saw a 7-point increase in Latino support nationally.

Perez emphasized that the border regions have been significantly impacted by the influx of criminals and illegal immigrants, leading local residents to witness these challenges firsthand. Consequently, the residents were skeptical of the messaging from the Biden administration and were more aligned with Trump's approach to border security.
