Officers of the Income Tax (I-T) Department are conducting searches at the Chennai residence of S. Jagathrakshakan, former Union Minister and DMK MP from the Arakkonam Lok Sabha constituency, in Adyar on Thursday, October 5, said sources.
Simultaneous searches are also being conducted at other premises linked with Mr. Jagathrakshakan, and also at the houses of his relatives in Chennai. Over 40 properties linked to the MP are reportedly being searched.
Sources also said a search is ongoing at a medical college in Poonamallee, another medical college near Puducherry, a hotel in T. Nagar and a firm in Nungambakkam.
Armed police personnel were deployed at the premises where the searches are underway.
Puducherry
In Puducherry, a 12-member I-T team launched a search at Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences, Agaram, near Ossudu Lake.
According to sources, the IT team reached the institute around 8. 30 a.m. The hospital staff and students were allowed inside only after their identity was checked. Searches are also on at the administrative blocks of the hospital and college, under tight security, by a force accompanying the IT team from Tamil Nadu
Puducherry police said there was no request from the I-T department for personnel.
