Jack Della Maddalena needs a new opponent for UFC 290.
Sean Brady is out of his welterweight matchup against Della Maddalena on July 8 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas due to undisclosed reasons. Della Maddalena is seen confirming the news in a video Joaquin Buckley posted on Instagram. He later posted separately asking for anyone to step up for UFC 290. The news was originally reported by Twitter user Bendaman 2001.
In the video, Buckley tells Della Maddalena that the UFC called him to step in against him, but he would rather fight him in September. Della Maddalena responded by saying why not the UFC 290 card, and even offered Buckley a catchweight. However, Buckley said he would rather wait and fight him at 170 pounds in the fall, likely Sept. 9 in Sydney in Maddalena’s home country of Australia.
Della Maddalena (14-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC) was looking to remain unbeaten in the octagon. He last competed in February when he submitted Randy Brown in the first round at UFC 284. The finish gave Della Maddalena his third straight Performance of the Night bonus.
Brady (15-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) hasn’t competed since suffering his first-career loss, a TKO to Belal Muhammad at UFC 280 in October. He was scheduled to face Michel Pereira in March, but withdrew due to a torn groin.
With the change, the UFC 290 fight card includes:
- Champion Alexander Volkanovski vs. Yair Rodriguez – for featherweight title
- Champion Brandon Moreno vs. Alexandre Pantoja – for flyweight title
- Dricus Du Plessis vs. Robert Whittaker
- Dan Hooker vs. Jalin Turner
