In pictures: Thousands gather for pro-Palestine demonstration in Glasgow

CROWDS gathered in Scotland on Saturday afternoon for a pro-Palestine demonstration as part of a number of rallies throughout the UK.

As well as Glasgow, demonstrations also took place in Edinburgh, London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Belfast and Salford.

The demonstrations came as aid deliveries reached Gaza for the first time since Israel imposed a blockade following a Hamas attack which killed 1400 people.

Palestinian officials say more than 4000 people have since been killed as a result of Israeli bombing.

Speaking on Saturday, a spokesperson for the Israeli military said it would “deepen” and “increase” the strikes, to allow Israel to “minimise the risks to our forces in the next stages of the war”.

Rishi Sunak meanwhile has said there should be increased humanitarian access to Gaza.

Chants of “free, free Palestine” could be heard at the Buchanan Steps in Glasgow before the rally made its way to George Square.

It came after a number of demonstrations also took place last week.

In a post on Twitter/X, First Minister Humza Yousaf said: “We need more aid in & we need a humanitarian corridor opened to let the innocent people of Gaza out.

“We continue to join others in the international community demanding the release of all hostages.

“We need a ceasefire now. Too many innocent people have lost their lives already.”
