U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested nearly 50,000 people in July. It is the highest single monthly arrest total during the second Trump administration. This surge, which saw 49,571 individuals taken into custody, signals that the administration is aggressively pushing its mass deportation agenda. However, it is now being done differently than the high-profile, militarized raids that dominated news cycles earlier in the year.
According to the Associated Press, the July arrest tally is a 15% jump from the 43,021 arrests recorded in June. Strikingly, it represents a 70% increase from February, when arrests dipped following the intense public outcry and legislative scrutiny in Minnesota. Per the outlet, the data, provided by ICE to the Deportation Data Project at U.C. Berkeley and UCLA, highlight that the agency is not only active but is effectively scaling its operations.
