Welcome to the greatest single day in sports—the last Monday in October, the only day of the year on which each of the Big Four leagues is in action. It’s widely known as the Sports Equinox, but we prefer to call it the Sports Syzygy. (Syzygy is the alignment of three or more celestial bodies, and it’s also fun to say. It’s pronounced si-zuh-jee.)
This year it’s even better; because of the midseason break for the FIBA World Cup, the WNBA is still rolling on. Game 5 of the Finals is Monday night, along with Game 3 of the World Series, the standard Monday Night Football matchup and light slates of games in the NBA and NHL. In total, there are 15 games being played across the five leagues on October 26: one MLB, one NFL, nine NBA, three NHL and one WNBA.
