BOISE, Idaho — The director of the Bureau of Land Management visited Boise last week to learn about fuel breaks and visit the National Interagency Fire Center as the agency works toward gaining a handle on the cycle of megafires.
Megafires — blazes larger than 100,000 acres — have burned a swath of land across southern Idaho in the last several decades, including the Soda fire, which scorched more than 280,000 acres southwest of Boise in 2015.
During her May 3 Boise visit, Tracy Stone-Manning, who was sworn in as director in October, touted infrastructure spending that will direct millions to Idaho for wildfire prevention, including prescribed burning and fuels reduction.
