BENGALURU: In the year 2022, Karnataka lost about Rs one crore to cyber fraud every day, and we are expecting a 150 per cent increase in the money lost, said Minister of Information Technology and Biotechnology, Priyank Kharge, on Saturday.
Talking at the Digital Suraksha event organised by Meta, in Bengaluru, Kharge said, “The year 2022 saw a cumulative of Rs 363 crores lost, and it is estimated to double this year. This is happening at a breakneck speed, and is beyond the policies, and technologies we are employing. Only 12 per cent of the Rs 363 crores lost was recovered. In my opinion, unreported cases would be double the loss. The reportage could be lower by 50 per cent because people would either not know what to do, or there is public humiliation attached to it.”
