In 2011, giant African land snails were found in Miami; Florida later sent trained Labradors into gardens to sniff out invaders humans could miss

When Florida discovered giant African land snails in Miami in 2011, the challenge was finding them in the first place. Many could hide in vegetation, debris and other sheltered places, making eradication harder to track. In 2014, Florida added an unusual tool: specially trained Labrador retrievers that could detect the snails by scent even when people could not see them.
