In 1979, Rahul Mehta’s parents sold their gold and silver to fund his first semester in America; decades later, he helped establish eight schools across six IITs

Rahul Mehta had already built and sold four companies in the US, amassed enough wealth to stop working and reached what he calls his “enough number”. But instead of chasing another business or adding to his fortune, the entrepreneur turned his focus to education, backing programmes across IITs to help build what he sees as India’s most valuable long-term asset — its intellectual capital.

For Rahul Mehta, the answer was not another company, a bigger home or greater wealth. Instead, he chose to invest his time, expertise and resources in something he believed could create a lasting impact: education.
