- A UN torture expert, Alice Jill Edwards, has urged Pakistan to end the inhumane treatment of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan , citing his near-total solitary confinement for 33 months.
- Ms Edwards highlighted that Khan is held in a small, windowless cell under 24/7 CCTV, often without exercise or meaningful human contact for over two weeks continuously, exceeding the UN's Mandela Rules.
- Concerns were also raised about reports that Khan is being denied proper medical care for serious health issues, including a spinal injury and bullet wounds from a 2022 assassination attempt.
- Khan's family and his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party plan a nationwide protest march on 5 August to Adiala Jail, marking three years since his incarceration and demanding his release.
- Khan, who was ousted in a 2022 no-confidence vote, denies all charges against him, which his party claims are politically motivated.
