Work to transform two side streets in Newcastle city centre into a 'pocket park' and stylish dining destination is almost complete.
Improvements to Ridley Place and Saville Row, which are just off Northumberland Street, have been going on for months - but now Newcastle City Council said the projects are set to be finished in time for the summer.
Visitors can expect a "pocket park" as part of the changes to Ridley Place, as well as a series of murals created by local artists that aim to brighten the area. New lighting, seating and planters will also be installed as the council looks to create a "greener more welcoming place" in the city centre.

Changes to Saville Row also include new seating and plants that aim to "give the feeling of a garden located just off the city’s main shopping street," and attract families, according to the council. There are also future plans to introduce kiosks that offer alternative trading opportunities on the street.
The improvements to both streets have been funded through the Government’s Getting Building Fund.
Coun Alex Hay, cabinet member for a resilient city at Newcastle City Council, said: “I’m pleased that the work on these two streets will soon be complete and am looking forward to seeing them fully reopened to the public.
“As an authority, we know it’s important that we provide the right environment for small and independent businesses to grow, and both these streets will offer this. These businesses are important to Newcastle’s economy and help to create jobs and opportunities for residents.
“Ridley Place and Saville Row will have new planting, trees, and more greenery, supporting our drive for a greener, more sustainable city and contributing to our ambition to become carbon neutral.
“I hope they will both be enjoyed by both local people and visitors to the city for years to come.”
