'Improved a lot' - Erik ten Hag hails Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s Manchester United comeback

Erik ten Hag has noted the marked improvement of Aaron Wan-Bissaka as the season has progressed, saying he is one of a number of Manchester United players to have raised their level.

Wan-Bissaka played just four minutes before the World Cup, with Diogo Dalot pinning down the right-back slot, playing every game he was available for pre-Qatar.

Wan-Bissaka was handed his first start under Ten Hag when the season resumed, grabbing an assist in the 2-0 League Cup win over Burnley just before Christmas.

Wan-Bissaka has enjoyed regular starts since and is now considered to be ahead of Dalot in the pecking order thanks to a series of classy displays. The 25-year-old has 12 months left on his deal albeit has the option for a year’s extension.

United figures have been impressed by Wan-Bissaka’s output since Christmas and manager Ten Hag is one of them. "He has improved a lot, as many players have improved during the season,” Ten Hag told club media.

“That's one of the jobs for a manager and the coaching staff, to get that done [improve players] and we are really happy with it, that players are developing.

“Always the team spirit is the base and if players understand that, if they can set their egos aside, then you will see that the team develops and progresses.

"And then within the team's progress, individuals make a lot of progress and Aaron is definitely one of them."

Despite his good form Wan-Bissaka’s future at Old Trafford is unclear. United have held discussions with Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong, who has nine goals and 11 assists from wing-back this season.

The Reds are also hopeful that they can tie Dalot down to a new long-term deal amid interest from Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Roma.
