It is "impossible" for Ryan Tubridy to come back to Irish airwaves for now, RTE's Interim Director General Adrian Lynch has said.
When asked by Senator Shane Cassels if Tubridy will be back on air during the Oireachtas Media Committee committee meeting, Mr Lynch answered that right now "for editorial reasons it is impossible for Ryan Tubridy to be back on air". And when asked if he will ever be back, Mr Lynch repeated: "I would just say, for editorial reasons he is not on air at the moment."
Mr Lynch is one of the seven RTE executives appearing before the Oireachtas Committee today to address the Ryan Tubridy payment scandal. This comes after RTE announced negotiations with Tubridy for his radio slot had been "paused" amid the payments controversy.

However, a source close to Mr Tubridy told the Irish Times that he has challenged RTE's argument that his contract had ended. The radio presenter normally fronts his weekday RTE Radio 1 programme called The Ryan Tubridy Show from 9am until 10am. Since the scandal broke last week, Oliver Callan has been stepping in for Ryan for the radio slot.
