The quality of imported food could suffer post-Brexit according to a new report from a British food watchdog. A report by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Food Standards Scotland (FSS) said the pandemic and the Ukraine war may also have an impact on food standards.
Although the report concludes that, within the last two years, "food standards in the UK have largely been maintained", they have expressed concerns that meat, dairy, eggs and feed - which they term higher-risk food - could be open to “potential safety incidents”, the report says.
Two of the main concerns identified are the fall in the number of inspections of food businesses and a delay in establishing full UK import controls for high-risk food.
