Important message for The Last of Us TV series fans over major change to next episode

Fans of The Last of Us are set to experience a change in dates for the release of episode five.

The critically acclaimed drama, based on the hit video game of the same name, has previously been released every Sunday in the US and Mondays in the UK via Sky Atlantic and its on demand services.

However, this Sunday the US Super Bowl will take place. Likely given the popularity of the event, it has been decided to show the latest instalment earlier than usual in the US, and the UK is following suit.

Sky confirmed this to The Independent. In a statement they said: “The episode will be made available Saturday 11 February from 2am on Demand in advance of its linear premiere on Sky Atlantic Monday 13 February 2am as normal."

In the US, it will be available to stream via HBO Max from 9pm ET/PT (1am GMT) on Friday. This means that fans will have only have to wait for five days between releases instead of the usual seven. Sky also confirmed that future episodes will be revert back to its normal release time of Monday's at 2am.

The Last of Us, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay as Joel and Ellie, takes place in a brutal dystopian world where a zombie apocalypse has run rife. It has received praise for its emotional storyline and its faithfulness to the video game on which it is based. The drama has now been renewed for a second series.

The Super Bowl, the final playoff game of the NFL to decide the league champion, will feature the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs at the State Farm Stadium in Arizona. It will kick off at 11.30pm GMT, with coverage available on ITV1 and ITVX starting at 10.45pm. It will also be shown on Sky Sports from 10pm.

The famous half-time show will feature a heavily anticipated performance from Rihanna, who has not toured or released an album since 2016.
