Impact of 'enormous' blaze on family-run fishery will be a 'tragedy' as fire service drains 2.5m gallons from lake

A family-run fishery has been left "unfishable" after Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service drained 2.5 million gallons of water from a number of lakes to put out an enormous fire. The owner of Lakeside Fishery, in Ranskill, says she was lucky to have not lost her home in flames which reached heights up to 50-feet, however the long-term impacts on her business could now prove "a tragedy".

A major incident was declared in the north of Nottinghamshire after thousands of tyres and several diesel tanks caught fire at a scrapyard, sending colossal plumes of smoke into the air that could be seen as far away as Leeds. Nearby businesses were "wiped out" as a result.

One of these is Lakeside Fishery, which sits parallel to the scrapyard. Linda Hawke, the owner of 40 years, says the lakes have since become "unfishable", with the fire service having been forced to drain an estimated 2.5 million gallons of water from some of her five lakes.
