Imminent Man City signing Erling Haaland compared to Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer

Former Newcastle United defender Steve Howey believes Manchester City bound Erling Haaland shares a number of similar traits to legendary Magpies striker Alan Shearer.

Since he burst on to the scene, Haaland has taken the football world by storm. Joining Dortmund in January 2020, he went on a tear, scoring 13 goals in his first 15 Bundesliga games. During his time in Germany, he has netted an incredible 85 goals in 88 games. The Norwegian forward looks set to join City this summer, with a deal agreed between the two clubs.

And one of Shearer's former team-mates, Steve Howey, reckons their are plenty of similarities between the two strikers. "I mean Alan [Shearer] wasn't slow, by any means but obviously the lad's [Haaland] very quick," Howey told Football Daily.

"The similarities when you do look at the goals that he scores, Al scored a big range of goals and all the goals. He was aggressive, he was strong, he did like the physicality of it as well.

"But not only that, he was a very good player. I think, the way that City play football with the intricate passing, I think that suits his game as well because he pretty much is the all around package. When you watch him, he has got everything. For Manchester City fans, hopefully they can continue to win and actually clinch that title. Next season, it'll be a whole different ball game. I saw Jurgen Klopp's interview and when he said 'I've just signed a new contract, I know that Manchester City won't stay still'. Obviously with this signing, they're certainly not."
