Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has released photos from a major fire at County Hall in West Bridgford. Crews were called to the headquarters of Nottinghamshire County Council on Thursday, July 28 at 11.45am.
Photos released from the service show the importance of fire doors as the incident was contained in one corridor by self-closing fire doors which automatically shut. The fire service has warned that if these doors were not in place, damage to the building could have been much worse.
The blaze was tackled by 12 fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms, and crews from Derbyshire and Leicestershire's fire services also assisted in the incident. Nobody was injured in the incident, but the building did suffer from fire, smoke and water damage.
A clean-up is underway for the building and key services are operating as usual, with many members of staff working from other buildings or from home. The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical failure in the office ceiling of a councillor.
A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "The fire at County Hall was contained to one corridor by self-closing fire doors which shut when alarms sounded. Damage to the building could have been much worse if these weren't in place."
