TAK: Fifty-three Myanmar nationals were arrested at a security checkpoint in Mae Sot district late on Sunday night and charged with illegal entry.
A police-military team stopped a six-wheel truck for a search at Ban Huay Hin Fon checkpoint on Tak-Mae Sot road in tambon Mae Pa.
They found 31 men and 22 women hiding under bags of vegetables on the back of the truck. The truck was driven by a 31-year-old Thai man identified only as Rat, who was accompanied by a woman called Beer, 33.
Police said the couple said they were being paid 30,000 baht to take the 53 Myanmar job seekers from tambon Mae Kasa in Mae Sot to workplaces in Nakhon Sawan.
The two were charged with providing help and shelter for foreigners who have entered the country illegally.
The job seekers were handed over to Mae Sot police for legal proceedings and deportation.
