Ilkeston Fair road closures announced for 770th event

The 770th Ilkeston Charter Fair - one of the oldest and largest street fairs in Europe - will be rolling into town transforming the centre into a colourful spectacle of lights, music and exciting attractions once again. Thousands flock to the annual fair which attracts families from far and wide and welcomes showmen from the Nottingham's Goose Fair.

The ceremonial opening will take place on Thursday October 20 when the Mayor of Erewash, Councillor John Sewell will ring the bell – the official signal the fair is underway. The tradition includes a reading of the original 1252 Charter in front of Ilkeston Town Hall.

Residents’ parking schemes adjacent to Ilkeston town centre will be suspended and some roads closed. The parking schemes will be suspended from Monday October 17, resuming on Monday October 24.
