The UFC will now have another member of the Topuria family on their roster.
In an interview with ESPN, Ilia Topuria was asked by play-by-play commentator Jon Anik on the news of his brother, Alexsandre Topuria, being signed by the UFC.
Alexsandre, who’s 5-1 as a professional, is a 28-year-old bantamweight on a three-fight winning streak – most recently scoring a first-round TKO win this past May on the regional circuit in Spain.
“He will be become a UFC world champion, too,” Topuria said of his older brother. “He’s very good, very talented. He’s good everywhere: on the ground, wrestling, striking. Very good style. They’re going to enjoy his style.”
Topuria (14-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) challenges featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski (26-3 MMA, 13-2 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC 298 headliner (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
He says observers can expect his brother to make his UFC debut shortly after.
“After my fight – soon,” Topuria said. “Maybe one month after my fight. Something like that. He’s ready, trust me.”
