- Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar has issued a statement after her home was raided by federal agents on Monday morning.
- Omar’s home was searched by Homeland Security Investigations agents as part of an ongoing federal investigation, a Justice Department spokesperson told The Independent.
- “I’m ok,” Omar wrote after the raid. “Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.”
- President Donald Trump has relentlessly targeted Omar, the first Somali American elected to Congress, with derogatory and inflammatory language and has called for her to be investigated.
- She is a leading voice against ICE and once again condemned Trump’s comments about Somalians last week, writing on Oct. 9: “Trump’s obsession with demonizing the Somali community is dangerous and reprehensible. Hate to break it to him: Somali Minnesotans are resilient. We will not let Trump intimidate us. Our neighbors have our back.”
