Iker Casillas accused of 'lying to everyone' by Jose Enrique after hack claim

Jose Enrique has accused Iker Casillas of 'lying to everyone' after he claimed he was hacked regarding a tweet which suggested he was gay.

The former Real Madrid goalkeeper posted on social media: "I hope you respect me: I'm gay," and has since deleted the tweet. Casillas has claimed he was hacked after he originally received huge praise for the brave statement.

The World Cup winner with Spain has now said: "Hacked account. Luckily everything in order. Apologies to all my followers. And of course, more apologies to the LGBT community." Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has slammed his compatriot however.

He responded to Casillas by saying: "Instead of apologize and recognize the mistake rather lie to everyone." Reports in Spain claimed that the 41-year-old was tired of recent speculation surrounding his dating life. AS suggested that Casillas' post was a response to rumours that he's now in a relationship with Alejandra Onieva, 18 months after separating from the mother of his two children, Sara Carbonero.

The situation was further muddled by Carles Puyol, his former international teammate, who responded by saying: "The time has come to tell our story, Iker" with pictures of them celebrating together.

Josh Cavallo, the Australian player who came out as gay last October, slammed the pair after thinking it was a joke on social media. He said: "Iker Casillas and Carles Puyol joking and making fun out of coming out in football is disappointing. It's a difficult journey that any LGBTQ+ ppl have to go through. To see my role models and legends of the game make fun out of coming out and my community is beyond disrespectful."

Casillas called time on his playing career in 2020 after a hugely successful career that lasted more than two decades. The goalkeeper came through the ranks at Los Blancos and established himself as their No.1 at a young age. His career in Madrid saw him play 725 times.

During that period he won three Champions League titles, starting in their La Decima triumph of 2014. He also claimed five La Liga titles as well as the Copa del Rey on two occasions. With Porto he won the Portuguese title in 2018.

At international level Casillas won 167 caps over a 16-year period, making his debut in June 2000 against Sweden as a 19-year-old. The goalkeeper would be a stalwart and played a crucial role in their period of dominance which begun with Euro 2008 success. Spain also won the World Cup in 2010 and Euro 2012.
