IKEA's Stylish Watering Can is a Bestseller For a Reason – it's a Must-Have For Every Houseplant Enthusiast

Houseplants being watered using a white and gold watering can.

From rakes and trowels to shears and chainsaws, gardening tools might help you create an outdoor oasis, but they don't always look pretty. Even watering cans can lean more toward function than style – and when it comes to indoor plants, this has always made me crave something a little more polished.

The answer to my prayers? IKEA's Vattenkrasse watering can. This bestselling product has garnered more than 1000 online reviews, with nearly 800 shoppers awarding it a five-star rating.

It's easy to see why it's so popular: featuring a sleek cream finish, a gold handle, and a delightfully retro silhouette, this watering can is as stylish as they come. And at just $15, it really is the best way to upgrade your indoor gardening toolkit without breaking the bank.

Why is IKEA's Watering Can So Popular?

You'd be forgiven for questioning why, exactly, a $15 watering can would cause such a frenzy, but this one really is the perfect blend of style, functionality, and affordability.

In my quest to find a watering can that doesn't feel like a purely functional piece of kit, I've come across plenty of stunning options – Anthropologie's glass watering can is a personal favorite – but to me, IKEA wins thanks to pricing. The Vattenkrasse watering can looks undeniably chic, and you would really never know that it's so budget-friendly.

A stylish watering can also solves a common problem if you happen to be lacking in storage. I might be determined to fill my home with all the best indoor plants, but it's trickier to find somewhere to hide my tools, from watering cans to spray bottles (mine are from Target) and fertilizer (I like to stock up on Miracle-Gro indoor plant food from Amazon).

Since IKEA's watering can doubles as decor, however, I can confine less-sightly items to my living room closet while happily leaving my watering can on display, ready to be admired. It's become a rather unexpected shelf-styling hero.

Of course, it isn't impossible to find elegant gardening accessories, and I've become rather skilled at seeking them out: there are chic aprons (I love Terrain's canvas gardening apron) and patterned gardening gloves, of course (West Elm's arm-saver gloves are available in a variety of joyful prints).

Plus, when it comes to houseplants, you can explore everything from Anthropologie's heart-shaped watering globes to We the Wild's retro grow poles. They might not sound like essentials, but these small additions bring so much joy to my setup – including IKEA's watering can.

Why Shoppers Love IKEA's Vattenkrasse Watering Can

As my indoor garden continues to grow, I've also found that there's an abundance of chic misters to shop for – you'll spot plenty of affordable glass spritzer bottles like this one at Amazon – but stylish (and sturdy) watering cans feel like a rarity if you don't want to part with hundreds of dollars. This, it seems, is why IKEA is so beloved.

Online, the Vattenkrasse watering can has a lengthy list of five-star reviews, with shoppers praising both its design and practicality.

'This watering can is perfect for my houseplants, and it’s so adorable I keep it out as an accessory,' writes one reviewer.

'The narrow spout helps to aim water where it needs to go without spillage,' writes another. 'The gold handle is just the icing on the cake!'

It's worth noting that a handful of reviews mention that the watering can either leaked or quickly rusted on the inside, but the majority of shoppers seem thrilled with their purchase.

It's also important to consider that the Vattenkrasse watering can is on the smaller side – in fact, it's just over six inches tall. However, many shoppers cite this as beneficial, both when it comes to saving space and also preventing you from overwatering your houseplants.

'It's beautifully designed and well built,' summarizes one happy reviewer. 'It works great with indoor plants in small pots.'
