IKEA pulls kitchen item from shelves as it 'may cause injury'

IKEA has pulled a popular kitchen item from its shelves after reports of it "bursting during use".

The retail giant has recalled an espresso maker due to the "potential of injury". Signs in its Warrington store on Thursday urged anyone who owns the METALLISK espresso maker for hob 0.4l to return the product to store for a full refund.

IKEA has pulled the item from sale both online and in stores.

A customer notice reads: "IKEA asks customers who have purchased the METALLISK espresso maker for hob 0.4l with a stainless-steel safety valve, date stamps between 2040 and 2204 (yyww, located at the bottom of the product), to stop using it and return to an IKEA store for a full refund.

"IKEA has received reports of the espresso maker bursting during use, due to a change of material and construction, with the potential of injury as a result. This risk was found in the updated model featuring the stainless steel safety valve (silver/grey in colour).
