There is no law stopping shops opening on New Year's Day like there is with Christmas - however some may decide to keep their doors closed anywya.
So if you are planning on buying some furniture or thinking about a new year's DIY project it's important to know
Here are the opening hours for Argos, B&Q and IKEA on New Year's Eve, New Year's Day and Monday January 2 which is a bank holiday.
Argos
All Argos stores will be open at their usual Sunday trading hours on New Year’s Day.

B&Q
These are the opening times for B&Q Bury, B&Q Wigan, B&Q Leigh, B&Q Bolton, B&Q Stockport and B&Q Trafford Park. Other stores across the country may have slightly different opening hours which you can find here.
New Year's Eve - 7am - 4pm
New Year's Day - 10am - 4pm (11am - 5pm Trafford)
Monday January 2 - 9am - 6pm
IKEA
Times for IKEA Manchester (Ashton-under-Lyne) and IKEA Warrington. All stores have slightly different opening hours which you can find here.
New Year's Eve - 9am - 6pm (10am - 6pm Ashton)
New Year's Day - 11am - 5pm
Monday January 2 - 10am - 10pm (9am to 8pm Ashton)
