The much anticipated Bastua collection are now available at Ikea stores and online. It is the first collaboration between the Swedish furniture conglomerate and Finnish lifestyle brand Marimekko.
Ikea Thailand recently held an event to launch the collection. Warunthorn Techakunakorn, Ikea Thailand's director of marketing and design, said, “The design teams garnered inspiration from the Nordic sauna culture and relaxation time. ‘Bastua’ is a term used to describe sauna in Småland, the region in southern Sweden where Ikea was founded. Each product item represents colourful and bold prints, as well as unique patterned textiles, such as the huge rhubarb leaves that sometimes grow next to sauna buildings in Scandinavian countries, the graphic yet relaxed wood bar stripes in a sauna room or the woodcarving pattern that is reminiscent of a lake’s surface in summer."
According to her, this collection aims to "inspire everyone to start bringing joy to their everyday life, while emphasising Ikea’s commitment to creating a better everyday life for many people, simply starting at home.”
At the launch, Thai actor Thanapob "Tor" Leeratanakachorn talked about the simple pleasures of home, while highlighting four motifs of this collection such as rhubarb leaves (Raparperi), steam flowers (Höyrykukka), wood bars (Pötkö) and woodcarvings (Puuleikkaus). Bastua products range from furniture, glassware, textiles and bathroom essentials. Stylish bathrobes to carrier bags, all in the Marimekko pattern.
