IIT Bombay rolls back hike in fee, students end hunger strike

MUMBAI: Students of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) who have been protesting against the fee hike have withdrawn their hunger strike after the fee committee which met on Friday took several decisions to scale back the fee hike. The relay hunger strike was started on July 5.

Hostel fee for all the students has been reduced by Rs 1,500, tuition fees for MTech new entrants has been cut by Rs 15,000, academic fee for all students, excluding the tuition fees, has been reduced by Rs 550, tuition fees for PhD new entrants has been reduced by Rs 1,250 and the one-time fee component for new entrants has been cut by Rs 1,100. "The administration has agreed to reconsider the BoG (board of governors) circular about a 5% annual hike in the upcoming fee committee meetings," the students said. -Hemali Chhapia
