If you can solve this 'impossible' riddle you could get £250 to spend on a holiday

How well do you think you know Manchester? Well enough to solve a ‘near impossible’ riddle that leads to a location somewhere in the city?

Because that’s the challenge being offered up by ‘riddle and code breaker enthusiast’ Nathan Timblin, who is celebrating the 110th anniversary of the birth of enigma code breaker Alan Turing this year with a code-breaking challenge of his own.

He’s set up five clues, all of which point to a certain spot in the city, and whoever cracks it will win a gift hamper and an entry into a draw to win a week-long break from Cofton Holidays, where Nathan works.

Here are the first two riddles…

Riddle 1:

Long or low, straight or bowed,

Many things below me flow.

I help to move lots of loads,

And sometimes I contain a road.

Cross me if you can with care,

Or take a moment to stop and stare!

What am I?

Riddle 2:

A fallen log could be my home,

The forest floor, a tree or stone.

I come in many shapes and size,

I can be treasured as a prize!

I'm a guy everyone thinks is so fun,

Growing wild or in your tum!

What am I?

Nathan said: “My mates at Cofton call me the ‘Master Riddler’ as I’m always challenging them to solve riddles that I make up on my lunch break. We heard that it would have been Turing’s 110th birthday this summer had he still been with us, and as my colleagues are yet to successfully solve any of my riddles, they’ve challenged me to open it up to the public to see just how difficult they are to crack.

“My boss Chris bets that no one will be able to solve them, so he’s promised to give away a free week’s stay in our best lodge during peak season.”

Another three riddles will be released each Monday on the Cofton Holidays website over the next three weeks. The holiday you could win is a week-long stay in a countryside luxury lodge during peak season next summer.

To find the next riddles, head to the Cofton Holidays website.
