Kieran Trippier has suggested Jurgen Klopp should direct his frustration over Newcastle United's time-wasting in the direction of last night's referee, Andre Marriner, not Eddie Howe's side.
The Magpies felt hard done by after conceding in the 98th minute of the match, with Fabio Carvalho firing home from point-blank range to snatch all three points at the death. Up until this point, the visitors had frustrated Liverpool by running the clock down and breaking up play at every opportunity.
Crystal Palace deployed similar tactics on their visit to Anfield earlier last month, which worked to great effect as Patrick Vieira's men earned a share of the spoils and were able to wind Darwin Nunez up, to the point whereby the Uruguayan received a red card after headbutting Joachim Andersen.

Klopp described Carvalho's winner as the 'perfect response' to Newcastle's antics, but Trippier believes any complaints over gamesmanship are not something the Toon Army should take accountability for. "That's something the referee needs to get control of," said the full-back. "We're coming away to Anfield, we set out a game plan so if he wants to complain about time-wasting the referee and the officials have to take control.
"Obviously, the lads are devastated [to lose] but we're talking about coming away to Anfield and performing the way we did. You just need to look back over the years at the performances that Newcastle players have put in and it's totally different to this one. We've come so far in a short period of time and that's what people need to realise because we certainly do.
"Going to Anfield and conceding in the last second just shows how much it means to the lads and how disappointed they are because of the performance we put in. But we've got a game in two days so we need to forget about it."
Commenting on the pain of seeing a point snatched from their grasp, Trippier added: "It's very tough to concede in the 98th minute when five minutes were supposed to be added on. We can't let the result take us off track because we've got a big game around the corner. It just shows how far we've come in a short period.
"It's one of them things, these things happen, I can't explain it, someone else is going to have to explain but it's tough to take, we conceded and we move on."
