'If anyone can do it, it's him' - James Maddison sends message to Kyle Walker on Kylian Mbappe

James Maddison has publicly backed England team-mate Kyle Walker to stop France forward Kylian Mbappe.

England will face Les Blues in the last eight of the World Cup in Qatar, after safely progressing following Monday's 3-0 triumph over Senegal. Mbappe however scored twice in France's 3-1 victory over Poland, with Manchester City defender Walker expected to continue on the right side of the Three Lions' defence.

Having not conceded since England's opening 6-2 win over Iran, Gareth Southgate's side are brimming with confidence, with Sunday's clash with the reigning World champions the next task for his side to overcome. Maddison - who is yet to feature in the Middle East - insists there is one man up to job of stopping the PSG superstar this weekend.

“He’s obviously a fantastic player, one of the best in the world,” he told talkSPORT. “I’m sure we’ll prepare right to try and stop him. Kyle Walker started right-back in the game against Senegal and he’s one of the best full-backs in the world. I think if anyone can do a job, it’s him.

Having scored nine goals already at the tournament, Maddison also insisted how Mbappe is not the only player the Three Lions should be wary of. ''Listen, France have a lot of threats. It’s not just Kylian Mbappe. They’re a brilliant team and that’s why they are reigning champions,'' added the Leicester City midfielder.

''We’ve got a lot to be wary of but the tactical work that we do, and the staff here, the work that goes in on the background that people don’t see, will leave us in good stead hopefully, and hopefully we can progress.”
