Idris Elba has opened up about the time an intimate shower with his wife Sabrina, 32. was interrupted by a bat.
The 49-year-old actor, who plays the lead in upcoming movie Beast, dished on the startling moment that took place when he was filming in South Africa. He went on to admit that was 'horrified' by the unexpected guest.
The Luther star also confessed that Sabrina, who he married in 2019, has refused to let him live down his initial reaction tot the animal and that she 'makes fun of him to this day'.
Speaking to Men's Journal, Idris said: "I was shooting in Limpopo. My wife was there and we were going to have some fun in the shower.
"Some morning romance, you know? She got in, then I followed her and closed the door. But then I looked down and clinging for life to the inside shower door handle was this bat.
"A tiny, wet bat. I hate bats. It was freaky as f***. I jumped out of the shower so fast. My wife makes fun of me about it to this day — 'You left me in the shower with a bat!'"
The actor elaborated that he had actually developed a fear of bats in Australia in 2019.
Idris has been promoting his latest film Beast, which sees him take on the role of a widowed husband who is on a trip to South Africa with his daughters and has to face a rogue lion who is tracking them.
The lion in the film was created using special effects and during filming a stuntman stood in wearing a big foam mask. He said that it was difficult to conjure up a similar level of fear.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Idris confessed that he had never done a movie before where he had to fight with something that is not really there in close proximity.
He confessed that he has had roles that involved imaging swords and weapons, but the imagined lion was more difficult to conjure up fear for.
Idris said: "How fearful can you be when you've got a guy in a grey suit and a big floppy head trying to beat you? So that was a skill set that I had to learn."
The film star admitted that he typically doesn't watch much of a movie that he's in, with him managing about ten minutes at the premiere and then leaving.
Idris said that he managed to stay and watch Beast, which he called 'torture', but that he had been fascinated about how they had managed to capture a 'ferociousness' of the lion.
