Elba recounted how auditions were taking place for the Martin Scorsese classic movie A Bronx Tale in 1993, and he somehow convinced the security guard and receptionist that he had an appointment, despite not being invited to audition. However, he humorously clarified that he did not actually end up in the movie, as he was promptly kicked out of the office by De Niro's producing partner at the time.
