Film and TV Idris Elba star had fans in a spin in Newcastle where he showed off his musical skills during a special club night.
The actor - a star on both sides of the Atlantic following TV roles in The Wire and Luther as well as movies including Mandela: Walk to Freedom and The Mountain Between Us - proved he has plenty other strings to his bow when he performed a DJ set at The Lofts in the city centre. The set went down a storm with clubbers at the weekend Bliss night and it seemed that the main man enjoyed it as much as anyone.
Elba took to his Instagram story afterwards to say "what a rave". The star is the latest big name to appear at The Lofts, a so-called "superclub" which opened to a fanfare last summer, and his Saturday slot seems set to remain in the memory of fans who shared their night's experience on social media, summing up Elba's performance as "amazing" and describing how he "absolutely smashed it".

The Lofts itself said on its Facebook page: "We certainly won’t be forgetting Bliss on Saturday with Idris Elba for a long, long time". The Newcastle club has been out to add a string of big name draws to its programme since opening its doors last August with DJ legend Pete Tong headlining the launch party.
The club - spread over three rooms in what used to be Tiger Tiger in Newgate Street - boasts a state-of-the art sound system and an immersive light and visual show, adding to the 'superclub' label which refers to the fact it's the biggest club - with a 1,500 capacity - to launch in the region in a decade.
Also among its attractions are rooms with various looks and themes and a chill-out backstage area called The Electric for use by its visiting artists and VIP guests. All feed into the growing reputation of the club which is run by Rob Seaman - who previously spent 20 years in Ibiza and has run the likes of the world-famous Café Mambo - with Marty Smith and John Dance.
The Lofts' weekly Bliss night will be back on Saturday and, following on from Idris Elba, the April 2 line-up will feature Ferreck Dawn, LF System, Kev Cannon and CCM. For more information about who else will be on the upcoming bill see its website here.
