Idles lead fans on 'f*** the King' chant at major Glasgow gig

POPULAR rock band Idles led thousands of Glasgow fans on a chant of "f*** the King" during their major show at the city's OVO Hydro on Saturday night.

Frontman Joe Talbot invited attendees to kneel down and help sing the "new national anthem" while performing the song I'm Scum.

The lyrics of the song go: “I don’t care about the next James Bond.

“He kills for country, king and god.

“We don’t need another murderous toff.

“I’m just wondering where the high street’s gone.

“Cause I’m scum.”

It comes after the “appalling” cost of the Coronation of King Charles was revealed by the UK Government.

Official accounts revealed the event cost taxpayers £72 million, although campaign group Republic says the real cost was likely much more.

The King also faced criticism this month for choosing to visit a surplus food hub for his birthday as a "PR opportunity".

It followed a Dispatches documentary revealing that the King and Prince of Wales’ private estates had struck rental deals worth millions of pounds with the armed forces, the NHS and state schools.

The outspoken performers also led chants of "Viva Palestina" and "ceasefire now" throughout their set at the venue.

Idles are known for the political content in their songs, addressing issues like anti-immigration rhetoric in the UK, racism and misogyny.

During the gig, Talbot also revealed that he had been conceived in Glasgow – prompting fans to begin chanting "one of us".
