An “old improvised rocket” with “no explosives” was found on Sunday in Moshav Ram-On, the Israel Defense Forces said.
A security guard in the community, which is situated just within the 1949 Armistice Line and falls under the jurisdiction of the Gilboa Regional Council, located the remnants of the rocket in the moshav’s cemetery.
IDF sappers performed an initial investigation that determined that the rocket did not pose a danger. No special instructions were issued to residents. The IDF is conducting an investigation into the date of the launch.
Meanwhile, five wanted Palestinians were arrested in counterterrorism raids in Judea and Samaria on Sunday night.
Security personnel arrested three fugitives in the Al-Arroub refugee camp, between Bethlehem and Hebron, the army said. Soldiers confiscated 10 boxes of fireworks, an M-16 rifle, ammunition and weapon parts.
Security forces also arrested two wanted persons in the villages of Hizma, near northern Jerusalem, and Kafr Malik, near Ramallah. During the activity in Kfar Malek, weapon parts, ammunition and other military equipment were located. Terrorists shot fireworks and threw stones, Molotov cocktails and paint at the soldiers, who responded with riot dispersal measures.
No Israeli casualties were reported.
The IDF confirmed that a “lone wolf” was responsible for two rockets fired from Jenin on June 26 and that they did not carry explosives.
A Hamas-linked group called the Al-Ayyash Battalion shared a video claiming to show the rocket launches from the city in Samaria towards Moshav Ram-On, located around 5 miles northwest of Jenin. However, the IDF said that there was no connection between the projectiles and an organized terrorist group, despite a report that Hamas’s “military wing” claimed responsibility for them.
The army earlier confirmed that a rocket was fired from the area of Jenin and struck Palestinian Authority territory. The army said the rocket did not pose a threat to Israeli communities.
According to the IDF, the identity of the Palestinian who fired the rocket is known.
Military officials said that it was more of a publicity stunt than an actual threat to surrounding Israeli communities.
Separately, on June 26 it was revealed that the Israel Security Agency, or Shin Bet, had arrested a Palestinian Arab after finding a rocket in an open field in an eastern section of Jerusalem about a month earlier.
Abdel Alhakim Buatna, a resident of Ajjul, north of Ramallah, was arrested on suspicion of intending to fire the rocket at Israelis during this year’s Jerusalem Day flag parade in May.
