An iconic sweet maker has won a major contract to supply its products to Claridge’s hotel in London.
Uncle Joe’s Mint Balls are to be packaged in an exclusive Claridge’s tin and given to guests as a departure gift.
The sweets are made by Wigan-based William Santus and Co.

The ownership has been passed down through the family generations and joint managing directors John and Antony Winnard are the great, great nephews of the company’s founder.
In a joint statement, they said: "We are honoured and delighted to have our sweets stocked by such a world-famous hotel and hope that this is just the start of a relationship that will see Claridge’s guests from around the world getting the opportunity to enjoy Uncle Joe’s Mint Balls."
The news comes after the company secured its first order from Australia in more than ten years towards the end of 2021.
The deal was struck with Perth-based British Provender which also works with the likes of PG Tips, Coleman’s mustard and Branston pickle.
Towards the start of last year, the business enlisted the help of the Government’s Department for International Trade (DIT) to help secure new deals in the wake of Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic.
The company worked with a DIT North West International Trade Adviser, and DIT teams in British embassies around the world, setting up virtual meetings to promote the famous sweets to potential clients.
Supplies of Uncle Joe’s, which have been made at the Toffee Works in Wigan for more than 100 years, were also sent to the British Embassy in Washington DC, USA, as a present for the new presidential administration of Joe Biden.
