Iconic Australian snack added to Tesco meal deal for first time - but some customers aren't happy

Shane Warne bowled the “Ball of the Century” at Old Trafford in 1993.

Kylie Minogue won hearts and minds as Charlene in Neighbours, before riding high in the UK charts.

And now, another Aussie icon is making waves on these shores.

Tim Tam, Australia’s most iconic chocolate biscuit, is now available as a Twin Pack in selected Tesco Express stores, both on its own and as part of Tesco's iconic Meal Deal.

The Prime Minister hailed Tim Tam biscuits

The snack, which comes in flavours including original, chewy caramel and dark, has been a hit in the UK since it first landed back in 2024.

Amber Dutkiewicz, Tim Tam market development manager UK&I, said: “Tim Tam has proven to be incredibly popular in the UK since our launch last year, and the demand to have Tim Tam in an on-the-go format has been strong.”

The chocolate biscuit has been enjoyed by Australians since 1964, with a popular eating method being the “Tim Tam Slam” - biting off a piece from both ends and then using the remains as a straw for tea or coffee.

The move has proved popular with many meal-dealers, with one Reddit user posted in the r/AskUK Subreddit: “I am addicted to them. So much so that I go to a big Tesco that’s quite out of the way just to get them.”

Another user, writing a review on the Tesco website, said: "I can see why they are Australia's number one biscuit - they are delicious! Super chocolatey!"

Others have been less impressed, however.

One TikTok user commented: "We don’t want that Aussie crap infiltrating our meal deals," while another raged: "Tim Tams are disgusting, Penguins are superior."

In August, Liberal Democrat MP for Maidenhead, Joshua Reynolds, called for parliament to be recalled after it was announced Tesco Meal Deal prices would climb to £4.25, or £3.85 with a Clubcard.

A Tesco spokesperson said: "Our meal deal remains great value and the ideal way to grab lunch on-the-go at just £3.85 for a main, snack and drink when bought with a Clubcard.”
