Iceland store closures as two more Welsh branches confirm closing down dates

Iceland is set to close two more stores in March and April. It comes after the supermarket located at the White Rose Centre in Rhyl shut its doors on Tuesday, March 14.

A second North Wales store is set to close on March 27, however, a new Food Warehouse will open in the city the following day. Speaking about the closure of the Bangor store at the Deiniol Centre, a spokesperson told North Wales Live: "The Bangor store will close on Monday 27th March and The Food Warehouse will open on Tuesday 28th March.

"We want to thank all that have chosen Iceland for their weekly shops and daily essentials over the years." As well as the closures in Rhyl and Bangor, a supermarket in Newport is also planning to close its doors next month.

The Newport store, which is located in Clarence Place, will close permanently on April 22. This is due to the fact the shop's lease is due to expire.

A spokesperson told WalesOnline: "Across Iceland and The Food Warehouse we have a portfolio of over UK 1,000 stores, and our retail estate has grown by nearly 200 stores over the last ten years. We typically open more than 20 new stores each year, creating many new jobs and contributing to the growth of local economies.

"At the same time, we continually review the retail experience offered to our customers and have always made a small number of store closures every year, as local shopping patterns change and shop leases expire. The business is currently trading very strongly, achieving record market shares. Customers can find their closest Iceland and The Food Warehouse stores here.”

The most recent Iceland store to open in Wales was in Carmarthen last year. For more what's on and shopping stories from WalesOnline, you can get our newsletter here.
