A furious pensioner has accused a parking firm of "blackmail" over a mix-up that saw her hit with a £170 parking fine despite putting £1 in a machine. Mary Jones, 72, went shopping with her husband Mike and parked in a space they thought belonged to an Iceland store. But it was managed by Excel Parking.
The firm issued the fine for some 40 minutes spent in the car park and has refused to accept an appeal. Excel says Mary didn't read the signs. Now, Mary fears facing bailiffs. She says she doesn't know what to do next, reports Devon Live.
She said: "I don't want to pay it; I don’t think it’s right. It’s blackmail.
