Iceland is giving away a further £1million to certain shoppers struggling with the cost of living. The chain is set to give away 40,000 food vouchers to certain pensioners - including those in Greater Manchester.
Earlier this month, the supermarket released a number of £30 vouchers to eligible pensioners to help them with essential shopping costs, and more have become available following further funding.
Shoppers who can access the voucher are being encouraged to apply as soon as possible, the Mirror reports, as they’ll be able on a first come, first served basis.
Applications are being accepted now, with a cut-off date of September 16. To qualify for the voucher, you must be of state pension age, living independently or with a carer and relying solely on state pensions and benefits.
You can get more than one voucher per household, for example, if you're in a couple. The vouchers can be used on food and household items, not including alcohol and tobacco.
They can be used across more than one transaction, so if your shop does not reach £30, you can partially spend the voucher and save the rest for another time. It works like a normal gift card - take the voucher to the till and the cashier will scan it.
Iceland is providing the vouchers at zero profit, to allow the total fund to be available to as many people who are in need as possible.
The vouchers are only available in certain areas, identified as those most in need, and include:
-
Birmingham
-
Croydon
-
Glamorgan
-
Glasgow
-
Greater Manchester
-
Huddersfield
-
Lambeth (London)
-
Liverpool
-
Newcastle North
-
Newport
-
North Wales
-
Sheffield
-
Strathclyde
-
Sunderland
-
West Midlands
-
Wirral
You can use the vouchers in 269 Iceland shops. However, this is only around a quarter of Iceland shops - you can Iceland's store locator tool to check for your nearest participating outlet.
All vouchers will expire at 11.59pm on December 31, 2022.
If you meet the criteria, you can claim the voucher by calling the Summer Cheer hotline on 0800 098 7877. The telephone line will be open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Once you've successfully applied, your voucher will arrive by post within seven days.
Richard Walker, Managing Director of Iceland Foods, said: “Since the launch of the partnership last Christmas, the cost-of-living crisis has taken hold of the UK, and now more than ever, people are struggling to access the food they need.
“No one should ever have to worry about how they are going to eat or drink, and we hope that the support we can offer across the UK will help pensioners access and enjoy a worry-free meal during this difficult time.”
