Ice warning extended as Met Office warns North East to prepare for arctic blast and snow

A weather warning for icy conditions has been extended as a cold snap grips the North East.

The Met Office announced a yellow weather warning from 6pm on Wednesday (December 7) until midday on Thursday, but the alert will now last through until 12pm on Friday (December 9).

Temperatures will drop to around -2C tonight and reach little above freezing until Friday afternoon - with drivers, cyclists and pedestrians warned of treacherous conditions and icy surfaces.
